A technique from the 19th century has been reinvented, and boy is it amazing. Litophanes printed with 3D printers have thinner and thicker areas - the thinner areas allow light to pass through them, whereas the darker areas block light. All that is needed to see the image - shine a light behind the litophane. Thousands of those variations throughout the entire litophane create an amazingly detailed image.
